Environmental Regulations

The Indiana Municipal Power Agency is committed to providing low-cost, reliable electricity while working toward solutions for today’s environmental challenges.

IMPA and our members are working with our state and congressional leaders to address climate change policy and environmental regulations. The opportunity now exists for utilities, legislators, regulators and consumers to work together in crafting policies and regulations that are fair, balanced, and most of all, affordable.

IMPA and its member communities take the threat of climate change seriously. As a Midwestern power supplier, the majority – 80 percent – of IMPA’s electricity comes from coal-fired generation. Over the years, IMPA has taken steps to reduce emissions and will continue to invest in economically feasible technology and programs designed to help reduce such emissions. IMPA and its members also want consumers to know that although these changes will come with a price tag, an appropriate legislative framework along with a focus on new technology and energy conservation can mitigate the burden of rising costs. With your help, we can do our part to reduce our impact on the environment and make sure the cost of implementing new energy technology will not financially impact consumers all at once.
