IMPA believes that one of the best ways to support our Members in their economic development efforts is to provide support to train their local economic development team members – including elected and appointed municipal and utility officials.  IMPA provides sponsorship support that allows individuals to attend formal training through the Oklahoma University – Economic Development Institute (OU-EDI), which periodically holds its week-long training sessions in Indianapolis, and the Ball State Building Better Communities – Basic Course.  These programs are highlighted below:

Basic Course – Ball State’s Building Better Communities

IMPA provides scholarships for Ball State’s Building Better Communities’ Basic Economic Development Course.  This course is offered annually in January and is a pre-requisite for the OU-EDI training.  The course is great not only for economic development professionals, but also for municipal leaders who must make important decisions locally on these issues.  See Building Better Communities' website for additional information.

The OU-EDI curriculum is a three-week course that provides professional economic developers with up-to-date knowledge and tools necessary to succeed in today's constantly changing economic development marketplace.  At the end of the third week, the participants become graduates of the program and are able to sit for the Certified Economic Development CEcD exam offered by the International Economic Development Council.  See OU-EDI's website for additional information.
