- In Indiana, 72 Public Power systems serve communities ranging in size from 150 to 60,000 people, serving about 6% of the state's electric load.
- Public Power systems traditionally provide the lowest cost power in Indiana. In a July 2010 rate comparison conducted by IMPA staff, Indiana's Public Power systems register average rates for a residential user of 1000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per month at 9.29 percent less than the average for Indiana investor-owned utilities.
