Indiana’s Municipal Electric Lineworkers Recognized for Lineworker Appreciation Day

Indianapolis, IN – Lineworkers from electric utilities throughout Indiana were recognized by the Indiana State Legislature on Monday for their dedication to keeping the lights on for Indiana’s over 6 million residents.
Line personnel must safely complete complex tasks in challenging situations in all types of weather to deliver exceptional reliability and service to the customers of their utilities.  To pay tribute to this dedicated service, representatives from Indiana’s electric utilities, including many municipal utilities, were recognized by State Legislators as they passed a resolution honoring their service.

Line personnel and superintendents from four Indiana Municipal Power Agency (IMPA) members were present at the Indiana Statehouse for the announcement by Representative Eric Koch and Senator Jim Merritt.  In part, the resolution recognizes Indiana’s lineworkers for their dedication to constructing and maintaining the state’s electrical infrastructure, ability to persevere in challenging situations, and dedication to their craft.
“Until the power goes out, electric lineworkers are often forgotten,” commented Raj Rao, Indiana Municipal Power Agency President and CEO.  “The men and women are available, day or night, seven days a week to ensure every customer in their service territory has the power they need.  They perform maintenance and construction to ensure their local electric system operates at its highest.  They are often first responders to storm related or other catastrophic events, making the scene safe for other public safety personnel.  We are eternally grateful and appreciative of the work they do.  This day is just a small token of thanks to the hardworking linemen across Indiana - and the country - for everything they do to protect our safety and keep our electricity on."

IMPA was joined by representatives from Crawfordsville Electric Light and Power, Frankfort City Light and Power, Greenfield Power and Light and Richmond Power and Light at the ceremony, as well as by lineworkers from Indiana’s investor-owned utilities and rural electric cooperatives.
