Samtec to open new center in Scottsburg

NEW ALBANY — Global manufacturing company Samtec announced Wednesday it will launch a new facility in Scottsburg by the middle of next year, as about 300 jobs will be relocated to the plant.

Samtec is headquartered in New Albany, but the move is a consolidation of the company’s Salem and Crothersville facilities and doesn’t affect the Floyd County plant, New Albany officials said.

“The new facility will help us streamline operations in Southern Indiana and provide greater efficiencies in distribution and logistics,” said Keith Baumann, global facilities manager for Samtec, in a news release.

The new plant will be located in the Scottsburg Technology Park District beside the Mid-America Science Park, or MASPark.

“Scottsburg has numerous economic amenities that align with our global growth initiatives as a service and quality leader,” Baumann said.

Samtec — which primarily makes electronic connectors and cable systems — was founded in 1976, as the company is worth $565 million and employs about 4,000 people.

“The city of Scottsburg and MASPark look forward to building a strong partnership with Samtec,” Scottsburg Mayor Bill Graham stated in a news release. “In addition, we are excited to welcome Samtec and the business culture they will bring with them into our community.”
