IMPA - GIS Mapping Interns
The Indiana Municipal Power Agency is a not-for-profit, wholesale electric generation and transmission company located in Carmel, Indiana. At IMPA, we support 61 communities in Indiana and Ohio through providing low-cost, reliable, and environmentally responsible electricity, as well as a variety of other services to help in the overall success of each town or city.  The Engineering division of IMPA Service Corp, a not-for-profit formed by IMPA, assists IMPA members throughout Indiana to ensure quality electric service to their customers.
 
Our team is seeking two (2) detail-oriented individuals to assist with the development and implementation of a mobile-accessible GIS system and mapping the electric infrastructure of IMPA member communities.  These are paid summer internship positions and will work with engineers located in our Carmel offices.
 
What You’ll Bring to the Table:
  • Progress toward obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology, electrical or mechanical preferred.
  • An ability to work independently and with limited supervision.
  • Strong organizational, business software, and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to travel to our member communities, primarily within the state of Indiana and possibly overnight.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Working alongside our engineers and crew personnel to map the entire system of select member communities.
  • Developing an accurate inventory of the communities’ assets and infrastructure
  • Preparing a list of assets for each member utility, including poles, fuses, switches and circuit conductors
  • Developing maps of each community’s infrastructure using a web-based application and ESRI software
  • Developing software models of electric systems used to perform load flow studies, fault current analysis and system coordination studies

Anderson Municipal Light and Power - Line Supervisor
Incumbent serves as Line Supervisor for the Municipal Light and Power Department and is responsible for scheduling and supervising the construction and maintenance of the distribution, transmission, and street light systems.
 
DUTIES:
  • Conducts on-site inspections of construction and work crews to evaluate work quality, availability of materials, and compliance of scheduled work completion.
  • Schedules all construction and maintenance projects for the division dealing with electrical distribution and transmission and the street light system, including assigning equipment and personnel daily for the proper makeup of crews and assuring work completion around vacation and sick day schedules.
  • Prioritizes and schedules all construction and maintenance projects for the division.
  • Designs and writes project specifications for labor, materials, and equipment, verifies estimates and totals and recommends to supervisor the letting of bids and upon receipt of quotations, evaluates the documents to assure compliance with specifications.
  • Receives complaints and inquiries from general public concerning electrical and street lighting service, and responds to such inquiries by taking appropriate action to address the complaint.
  • Designs, schedules, and presides over staff meetings and safety meetings.
  • Coordinates all functions of the division with other governmental agencies, including other utility companies, and other divisions of the Light and Power Department.
  • Responds to complaints from subordinates and represents the division to labor representatives when grievances are filed.
  • Prepares the division budget and administers the budget upon approval.
  • Prepares annual report of division activities.
  • Maintains a wide variety of files, dealing with construction and maintenance projects, service calls, purchases, P.C.B. and E.P.A. requirements.
  • Performs duties of the Superintendent in his/her absence.
  • On call 24 hours a day for emergencies.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
I. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK:
  • Thorough knowledge of line construction and maintenance methods and procedures, including advanced principles and methods.
  • Extensive education and experience dealing with all facets of electrical distribution and transmission, typically acquired via a college education or equivalent experience in the field.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical and construction equipment and ability to properly schedule and utilize such equipment for the proper completion of construction and maintenance projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of statements of policy between union and management.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations, EPA regulations, National Electrical Safety Codes, National Electrical Code, ANSI, and ECT.
  • Ability to supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to deal with subordinates, contractors, and other suppliers, and members of the general public in a courteous, effective, and tactful manner.
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle.
II. SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:
  • Incumbent works with instructions provided by the Superintendent and under general guidelines of the department and division, with the nature of the guidelines and instructions being an indication of overall quality and conformance with the policies of the department. Independent judgment is required to interpret the instructions and guidelines to meet construction schedules and deadlines and deal with emergency situations.
  • Incumbent performs a wide variety of duties involving complex functions, occasionally occurring in circumstances or situations that are unique.
III. SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:
  • Incumbent performs duties according to his/her own schedule, discussing highly unusual situations with the Superintendent when incumbent thinks it is necessary. Work product is evaluated by Superintendent for conformance with overall policies and practices of the department and for soundness of judgment.
  • Incumbent is responsible for the overall operations of the division and is expected to provide a major contribution to the purpose of the department, even in especially unique or complex situations.
IV. SCOPE OF WORK OPERATIONS:
  • Incumbent maintains a variety of contacts with other employees within the division, workers in other divisions of the department, and members of the general public for the purpose of coordinating activities and gaining acceptance and concurrence of actions and practices of the division.
  • Reports directly to the Superintendent.
V. OTHER:
Incumbent works in modern office environment, but conducts inspections and coordinates emergency crews in the field in all types of weather conditions.

Crawfordsville Electric Light and Power - Apprentice Lineworker

Job Summary
Working as part of a team, the individual will use technical, analytical and interpersonal skills and electrical knowledge to deliver reliable electric service to CEL&P customers. Responsible for performing inspections, maintenance, operations and construction work on the substations, transmission, distribution and street lighting systems.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Construct, maintain and repair overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems
  • Setting poles, maintaining and repairing overhead distribution or transmission lines, stringing new wire or maintaining old wire, installing and maintaining anchors, installing and maintaining insulators, installing and maintaining transformers, installing and maintaining underground distribution systems, trimming trees and brush, installing and maintaining other equipment including but not limited to; street lights, capacitor banks, transformers, cutouts, cross arms, switches, and insulators.
  • Work in below grade structures to pull, splice, and connect underground cables and other devices and equipment; install single phase and three phase electric meters.
  • Install, maintain, construct and replace energized distribution lines and equipment under all weather conditions and at all hours day or night.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair electrical street lights.
  • Observe all safety rules and practices, including working on circuits with hot sticks and/or with rubber protective equipment in aerial lifts or on poles in required safety apparel.
  • Operate all equipment as required including but not limited to Digger/Derrick, Aerial Lift truck, forklift, backhoe/tractor, trencher, hydraulic presses, cutters, and tools.
  • Complete training courses and bookwork for associated years.
  • Must accept Stand-by duties as assigned.
  • Subject to emergency call-out as required.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Crawfordsville Electric Light and Power - Facilities Maintenance Technician

Job Summary
The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment and property, including interior and exterior, and performing routine custodial work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintains a building maintenance plan that ensures maximum efficiency and utilizes preventative maintenance.
  • Troubleshoots and performs minor repairs of buildings and equipment.
  • Maintains and repairs lighting inside buildings.
  • Notifies Purchasing Agent concerning the need for major repairs.
  • Maintains exterior landscaping.
  • Performs routine custodial work such as: vacuuming; mopping; removing trash; cleaning, disinfecting and stocking paper supplies in restrooms; cleaning windows; cleaning and disinfecting breakrooms.
  • Cleans and restores building interiors including painting.
  • Assists Purchasing Agent with fleet management.
  • Assists Purchasing Agent with unloading or loading deliveries by operation of fork lift.

  • Follows applicable industry safety standard, safe work practices and state and federal safety rules.

Edinburgh Municipal Power and Light currently has an opening for a Journeyman Lineworker. Must have the ability to make informed immediate decisions in emergency or highly stressful situations. A valid Indiana driver’s license and CDL are required.  A Journey Lineworker ensures all duties and responsibilities of the department and are in compliance with OSHA, IOSHA and Regulatory standards. GENERAL SUMMARY 
Under the direction of the Working Electrical Foreman, responsible for the proper installation, operation and maintenance of the electric transmission and distribution system. Also related electrical facilities and equipment. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Performs construction, operation and maintenance of both overhead and underground electric transmission and distribution systems. Including electrical substation construction and maintenance. 
  • Performs the duties of an Equipment Operator/Groundman through a Lineman/ Serviceman/Crew Leader 1st Class. 
  • Assumes the duties and responsiblities of the Working Electrical Foreman in their absence. 
  • Assists in training personnel from Lineman Apprentice 1st through 4th year. 
  • Ensures work performed in accordance with Utility Construction Standards used by Greendale Utilities, OSHA work rules and the APPA Safety Manual rules.
  • Prepares reports related to vehicles and construction equipment ensuring all are operating safely and are in good repair.
  • Operates heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, derricks, trenchers, backhoes and other related tools. 
  • Attends seminars and continuing education classes to enhance technical skills. Including participating and passing the 4th year apprentice school. 
  • The employee is expected to wear safety items associated with work responsibilities. 
  • Participates in service watch call out rotation. 
  • Perform all other duties as required. 

QUALIFICATIONS 
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES 
High school education or equivalent required. Thorough knowledge and familiarity with principles and practices of electric power line construction and maintenance (including electrical substations) required. Strong verbal communications skills necessary in order to deal with a wide range of personalities both inside and outside the organization. Able to make informed immediate decisions in emergency or highly stressful situations. Should have a valid Indiana CDL driver's license. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 
  • The physical activity expected is balancing, stooping, crawling, climbing, kneeling, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, talking, and repetitive motions. 
  • Must be physically, mentally and psychologically able to perform all of the required duties. Position requires physical strength, finger and limb dexterity, and mobility. 
  • Must have ability to climb poles and to work poles or in an aerial lift at various heights. 
  • Must be able to lift weights of up to 90 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • The minimum working conditions require the employee to work both inside and outside, exposed to noise and adverse atmospheric and environmental conditions.
EXPERIENCE
  • Lineman Apprentice 4th Year classification required.
  • Four to six years transmission/distribution construction and maintenance experience required. Two years of related electrical equipment operation experience. 





















 
City of Jasper - General Manager of Utilities
This department head position is an appointment and under the jurisdiction of the Mayor as per Indiana Code 36-4-9-2. The General Manager of Utilities will create and advance a strategic vision and environment for the Jasper Municipal Utilities team in alignment with the City’s long-term plans. The ideal candidate is an experienced, strategic leader who champions cooperation and service excellence to meet organizational priorities, goals, and objectives. The selected individual will have an opportunity to evaluate functions, services, and activities of all the Utility Departments. In addition, the General Manager of Utilities will have:
 
  • Ability to coordinate operations with Utility managers, and Utility Service Board to ensure adequate, reliable, and economic utility departments’ production and services to Jasper Municipal Utility customers.
  • Supervises the integrated day-to-day operations of the Utility departments and distribution systems.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and administration of annual capital, operating, and maintenance plans and budgets of all Utility Departments (Electric, Water, Natural Gas and Wastewater).
  • Coordinates short and long-range planning efforts and goals regarding procedures and improvements in all aspects of utilities operations.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures.
  • Manage computer system implementation and modification with hardware and software vendors.
  • Ability to participate in the economic development of the City of Jasper and Dubois County while protecting the integrity of and promoting profitable usage of the Jasper Municipal Utilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
This position prefers graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree and/or 5 years experience in managerial duties, and related working knowledge in advanced municipal utilities operations. Experience should include a broad cross section of all the work required of a manager of utilities and considerable supervisor experience.

Under the direction of the Electric Operations Manager, this position is responsible for managerial and administrative work in directing all activities of the Engineering Department of the electric group of Lebanon Utilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Directs the overall administration and technical supervision for the construction, maintenance and repair of Lebanon Utility’s electric power lines, substations and street/security lighting.

       The successful candidate will be on call to respond to emergency situations on a rotating basis and should reside within a 12 mile radius of the Peru Utilities service complex within 90 days of employment.

Duties and Responsibilities
Help maintain the Electric, Water, and Sewer systems.

Water – Daily samples, meter reading, locate and repair leaks, maintain property, use backhoe and trencher.  Must be willing to get certified as a WT3 Water Operator and operate the Water Filtration Plant.

Electric – Help maintain the distribution systems repair outages, install new services, operate a bucket and digger truck, willing to be trained as a lineman, tree trimming.

Sewer – Help maintain the sewer system, maintain lift stations, pulling pumps, rebuilding the rails, repairing leaks, willing to get Sewer Certification for the Water Filtration Plant.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
An understanding of electricity, water, and sewer.  Able to operate various machines.  Learn to use the tools of the trade.

Working Conditions

Job Description: Wastewater Superintendent

Department: Wastewater Operations and Maintenance Dept.

Reports to: Mayor. As a Department head, the Wastewater Superintendent reports to and serves at the pleasure of the Mayor.

Principal purpose of Job: Supervise and Oversee control of the day-to-day activities of all Wastewater Plant Operations. Supervise and Oversee control of the day-today activities of the Wastewater collection system maintenance dept.

Work Environment: Work is primarily done indoors, but can also include working outdoors in every kind of weather condition and in confined spaces under unpleasant conditions. Depending on task performed, the noise intensity ranges from moderate to extreme. Some tasks require working with very hot materials and hazardous substances. Work performed in this job may place the employee at risk of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Employees are to be constantly aware of safety requirements.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Planning, directing, supervising, and evaluating the day-to-day functions of the wastewater treatment plant and related activities. Also keep the Mayor properly informed.
2. Planning, directing, supervising, and evaluating the day-to-day functions of the wastewater collection maintenance dept.
3. Developing and maintaining a professional, respectful, and positive working relationship with staff, coworkers, supervisors, and other agencies and the public.
4. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City of Washington's rules, regulations, policies, and applicable laws.
5. Training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and discipline employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
6. Insure efficient wastewater treatment, effluent quality and effluent disposal, in compliance with all state (IDEM) and federal (NPDES) regulations and standards, and to do related work as required.
7. Maintain and Monitor operational process records, log books, and instrumentation records data at the treatment plant.
8. Supervise, inspect, review, and participate in the work of the wastewater maintenance dept. staff.
9. Supervise and assist in the development and implementation of goals and objectives and maintaining focus on priorities for the wastewater maintenance dept.
10. Supervises and conducts job performance evaluations for all employees as per policy adopted by the Board of Public Works and Safety.
11. Demonstrate continuous effort to improve plant operations, and maintenance operations, streamline work processes, and work cooperation to provide quality service.
12. Recommends discipline or dismissal of unsatisfactory employees to the Mayor according to policy adopted by the Board of Public Works and Safety.

Additional Job Functions:
1. Possess skill in written and verbal communication. Must be able to communicate, read, write, and understand English at a level necessary for efficient job performance.
2. Knowledge of the operation and processes of a SBR system, and an Activated Sludge Wastewater Treatment Plant, and have a state of Indiana class III wastewater certification.
3. Knowledge of principles of engineering as applied to the repair and maintenance of wastewater lines, force mains, pumping stations, and all other applicable wastewater collection system controls.
4. Must possess a valid Indiana Drivers License.
5. Develop and promote the adherence to all established safety rules and practices, participates in safety programs, promotes safe working habits and requires the use of protective equipment.
6. Keep the Mayor properly informed relative to progress, plans, programs, and activities of the Dept.
7. The Superintendent should stimulate a high standard of moral among the employees by the creation and use of team spirit and enthusiasm through the Wastewater Dept.

1. Physical strength and ability sufficient to perform heavy manual labor for extended· period, sometimes under dirty and uncomfortable conditions and in all kinds of weather. Heavy labor is defined, for example, as operating an 85-pound jackhammer, carrying 80-pound bags of concrete for short distances.
2. Ability to acquire sufficient skill in using tools and equipment used for the various tasks and functions described above, with the goal of becoming a fully operative worker who can be assigned to any task of the sewer dept.
