Darlington Electric Utility-Darlington, IN. is accepting applications for an Electric Line Maintainer, Journeyman Lineman or a qualified individual who has entered a Line Maintainer apprenticeship. Must have an Indiana Class B-CDL drivers license or obtain. The successful applicant must be willing to live in or near the Town of Darlington. Job Description:
• Line work processes involving safety, first aid, tools, and equipment nomenclature, care and use, bucket truck, digger-derrick truck, backhoe, & trenchers.
• All non-energized equipment involving climbing methods, tree trimming, and construction, including secondary, single, and three-phase primary. These shall include both overhead and underground construction.
• Low voltage energized lines, involving setting single phase and multi-phase meters, erection of poles, and use of power equipment, include operating of hydraulic and other power equipment. This will include both overhead and underground construction.
• Hot-line work on single and three-phase lines, involving installation of transformers, arrestors, capacitors, oil circuit reclosers, sectionalizes, and regulators; cover-up equipment; trouble shooting and emergency repairs; and changing of poles, crossarms and insulators; including use of all hot line tools, especially rope blocks and knot tying. Including both overhead and underground construction.
• Familiarization with residential and commercial wiring, including power and control wiring; various electrical measuring devices, including basic meters, multi-phase meters, and recording meters.
• Work records, involving all records necessary in the completion of member connects, disconnects, meter changes, work orders, and material charge out forms, pole line inventory logs, electric meter reading, etc.
• Climb poles; most would be 30-45 feet in height.
• Must possess a class B CDL license (pass CDL physical). One day may be working on poles; the next day may be installing underground services.
• Excellent physical shape for year-round work. Ability to hand-dig, whether working overhead or underground construction. Work in all types of weather and, during storm conditions, will be asked to work a minimum of 24 hours straight without a sleep break.
• Feet, legs, back, arms, and hands in conjunction with hearing and eye coordination are essential to performing this job. Ability, from time to time, to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. would be required; however, this would be in emergency situation rather than the norm as most vehicles are furnished with lifting devices.
• Ability to perform the above in adverse weather conditions ranging from extreme heat in the summer to frigid cold in the winter with wind chill affecting a person’s skin and body.
• Lastly, in performing this job classification, every individual will be required night and weekend call backs, 2 hours minimum call pay at time and a half. 1 hour paid lunch for being on call 24-7-365.
• Employee will be expected at times, to interact with customers/members or contractors in a positive manner, representing Darlington Electric.
• Education. Successfully completed or heading toward the Indiana Municipal Journeyman Lineman Apprenticeship Standards as set forth or a qualified DOL approved apprenticeship.
• Employee will be expected to be a “team player”, and as such, co-ordinate and cooperate with other employees in performing job duties.
Also must assist in Street Department duties snowplowing, street tree trimming , potholes, storm drains & curb painting.
