Mayor pitches C'ville in D.C.

6/25/2018

Mayor Todd Barton recently returned from pitching Crawfordsville at the 2018 SelectUSA Investment Summit in the Washington D.C. area.

This is an event solely dedicated to promoting foreign direct investment in the U.S. Federal, state and local government officials gather with economic development professionals and business leaders and investors from around the globe.

“Businesses make decisions everyday about their future and this is an opportunity to plant seeds in the International business community that long-term success can be found in Crawfordsville,” Barton said. “It is so important to tell our story.”

This is the second year the Crawfordsville mayor has attended the event. He was a guest of the Indiana Municipal Power Agency. Barton said he was able to participate in both individual meetings as well as state-hosted meetings and events that included Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb.

Barton said striking a balance between nurturing the existing business base and building efforts to attract new business is one of the goals of the city's economic development program.

“We never want to forget about those who have invested here and who continue to do so,” Barton said. “But at the same time, we must continue to look to the future growth of our community.”

Currently, Barton and his staff meet annually with area companies to maintain relationships and stay abreast of possible opportunities and/or challenges.
