June 23, 2021—Tony Pochard, Electric Utility Director of Anderson Municipal Light and Power (AML&P), was officially appointed to the American Public Power Association (APPA) Board of Directors this June. APPA is the national voice for not-for-profit electric utilities, and its Board of Directors help to guide the Association’s direction to serve public power utilities across the United States. As a member of the Board, Pochard will represent the needs of Indiana electric utilities and their customers and continue advocating for the ideals of public power at the national level.
                Under Pochard’s leadership as Electric Utility Director, AML&P has accomplished numerous projects improving system resilience and service reliability to customers, including upgrades to four substations throughout the community. The upgrades increased available distribution capacity by 25% (75 MW). Additionally, the utility constructed a new transmission line connecting AML&P’s sub-transmission system with the regional transmission grid. On the renewable generation side, the city has witnessed the development of two solar parks with a total capacity of 13 MW through the utility’s wholesale power provider, the Indiana Municipal Power Agency (IMPA). Additionally, the city is working with IMPA to construct four additional solar parks within the city’s electric service territory, which will bring an additional 26 MW of solar to the community.
                Pochard also represents Anderson on the Board of Commissioners for IMPA, currently serving on the Agency’s executive committee, operating committee, and legislative committee. In this role, he works closely with other municipal utilities throughout the state, helps to make decisions regarding the community’s wholesale power provider, and networks with other public power professionals in Indiana and beyond.
