IMPA Members Commemorated for Reliability

4/26/2023

April 26, 2023—Earlier this month, five member communities of the Indiana Municipal Power Agency were given recognition by the American Public Power Association (APPA) for outstanding reliability. APPA is the voice of not-for-profit, community-owned utilities that power 2,000 towns and cities nationwide, and the organization awards public power utilities each year in several categories. This year, they awarded Greenfield Utilities, Lebanon Utilities, Peru Utilities, Richmond Power & Light, and Tell City Electric Department with their Certificate of Excellence in Reliability for the year of 2022.

This award honors utilities whose power outage records compare exceedingly well against national statistics supplied by the federal Energy Information Administration.

“It’s encouraging to see year after year that public power’s track record for providing highly reliable service is backed up by data,” said APPA Director of Research and Development Paul Zummo in a press release in early April. “These utilities are the best of the best when it comes to keeping the lights on. And these communities should be proud of their local power providers and appreciate the hard work that goes into earning this recognition.”
