TIPTON -- The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) took part in the dedication and unveiling of the Diana Theatre Mural on Saturday, May 13th in downtown Tipton. In the fall of 2016, the Tipton Main Street Association received a $10,000 OCRA Downtown Enhancement Grant (DEG) for the Diana Theatre facade improvement and mural project.

Every day, Indiana's rural cities and towns are developing vibrant main streets that welcome new businesses, visitors, and residents, and the Downtown Enhancement Grant program helps fuel these important efforts," said OCRA Deputy Director Matt Crouch. "I commend the Tipton Main Street Association for spearheading such a successful and collaborative project.”

“We are excited to see this community-based effort start coming to life. It has been a great catalyst for our Main Street to engage the community and initiate in-depth quality of life and place projects like The Alley and downtown greenspace,” said Nathan Kring who serves as Executive Director of the Tipton County Economic Development Organization.

Additional partners in the Diana Theatre Mural project include: the City of Tipton, Tipton County Chamber of Commerce, Tipton Community Theatre, Tipton Economic Development Corporation, Tipton County Board of Commissioners, the Paikos Family, owners of the Diana Theater, and many local citizens of the Tipton community.

The DEG program is designed to foster innovative approaches to activities that support and promote community based planning, broad partnerships, and beautification. Qualifying projects are those which promote economic development in the downtown areas and will enhance the quality of life in the community; applicants must be an OCRA designated Indiana Main Street community.
